The Call
In 2005,
Siby Varghese ,Billy Mettil ,Bear Cherian and several other musicians and singers led worship for the Saturday night service at the 23rdPentecostal Conference of North American Keralites . Siby played acousitc and lead vocals, Billy played keyboard and background vocals and Bear played electric guitar. Siby realized the call on his life to go into full time music ministry after speaking and praying with several people at the conference. He changed his major and school from Architecture at theCommunity College of Philadelphia to World Missions atValley Forge Christian College .The Start
Siby and Bear met frequently beginning in December 2005 to record an original album. The start was very rough with a dusty, 12-channel mixer, found abandoned in a trash dump connected to a homemade desktop computer and recorded using
Adobe Audition . With the help of Dany Wilfred on drums and Billy's brother, Bradley on electric guitar and bass the debut album, Siby Varghese was completed and released on March 24, 2006.The band continued to perform and lead worship in and around the
Pennsylvania ,New Jersey andNew York areas at various events conferences, meetings, cafes, colleges, etc. Billy and Bear played keyboard and electric guitar, respectively, while switching off on bass when Bradley was unavailable. The drummers position rotated between Dany and friends of the band, Steve Samuel and Johnson. The members were all a part of the Fusion House Band at Fusion First Friday meetings held by Fusion Ministries in Philadelphia.Siby and Bear met again in
November 2006 to remix and re-master the original album. During the process it was decided to add two more songs to the album and re-release it as a completely new album. Bear's basement was once again transformed into a studio space, this time with better equipment. The recording was completed in two weeks and included an appearance by Jason James. The album was released at The Koling in Oklahoma City, OK onDecember 22 , 2006.iby's Injury
During a basketball tournament in late
April 2007 , Siby hurt his leg and was under tremendous pain. After several hospital visits the doctors concluded he hadcompartment syndrome and was at risk of losing his leg. He was rushed into emergency surgery to relieve the pain. After six surgeries approximately fifty-percent of the muscle in his lower leg had died and was removed. Siby was unable to move or leave his home for about two months. During that time Billy filled in for lead vocals at venues that had booked the band ahead of time. With much prayer and support from his family and friends across the country, Siby has made a tremendous recovery and is able to walk without any assistance. He continues physical therapy to strengthen his leg.
Restructuring
The band began writing and collaborating for the second full album in the fall of 2007. As plans for the bands direction were discussed the members and their roles were solidified. Joby Alexander was added to play bass and electric guitar while Bear focused on providing sound support. Liffy Varghese became the bands PR man, as well as taking charge of video work at concerts.
