Inbox 2.0

Inbox 2.0

Inbox 2.0 refers to a new generation of email clients that use data in email archives to infer people's profiles, behaviors, social graph, and importance. [http://www.gaborcselle.com/blog/2007/12/definition-of-inbox-20.html Gabor Cselle: The Definition of Inbox 2.0] ]

The term originally appeared in a "New York Times" article [http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2007/11/13/inbox-20-yahoo-and-google-to-turn-e-mail-into-a-social-network/ "New York Times": Inbox 2.0: Yahoo and Google to Turn Email into a Social Network] ] and has since found wider usage.

Yahoo and Google have both announced products with Inbox 2.0 features. A number of startups such as Xobni and Xoopit are also competing in this space. The name is a reference to the Web 2.0 buzzword.
