Wonderland Park is an amusement park Located in Thompson Park, Amarillo, Texas.

Park History

Paul and Alethea Roads obtained property in Amarillo's Thompson Park, opening "Kiddie Land" in 1951. Devoid of trees or water, it mainly was home to scrub grass and sand burs. Mark Miles, then the city's Parks and Recreation director, promised to level the area and transplant trees.

Kiddie Land was opened several months later with three children's rides and a makeshift ticket booth made out of a box from one of the rides. The name was later changed to Wonderland, inspired by "Alice in Wonderland".

Currently, the park plays host to more than 200,000 visitors each year. A roller coaster called The Hornet which was orignial the Mayan Mindbender at Six Flags AstroWorld in Houston is expected to be finished and in operation in 2008. Fact|date=June 2008
