The Shoppes at Gateway Park is a proposed outdoor shopping mall, to be located in the city of Detroit, Michigan, United States. The complex will be located at the southeast corner of 8 Mile Road (M-102) and Woodward Avenue (M-1), near the Michigan State Fair complex. When completed, the mall will contain more than forty inline tenants. JCPenney will be the mall's anchor store, and its opening will provide the city of Detroit with its first full-line department store in nearly ten years.

Development

The Shoppes at Gateway Park will be an outdoor shopping mall with approximately convert|330000|sqft|m2|1 of retail space.cite web |url=http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071006/BIZ/710060367 |title=Detroit mall still on track |accessdate=2007-12-04 |last=Hurst |first=Nathan |date=2007-10-06 |work=The Detroit News] Originally, construction on the property was slated to begin in March 2007; however, Chicago, Illinois-based General Growth Properties, the mall's developer, later delayed groundbreaking on the mall until early 2008, in order to secure the interest of prospective tenants. As of late 2008, however, the mall's construction has been delayed again. In March 2007, JCPenney signed a letter of interest to be included as an anchor store of the complex. Another proposed feature of the mall is a special training center, in which General Growth plans to train employees on various retailing skills. At a December 2007 meeting, Detroit City Council members held a meeting to approve a special tax status regarding the mall's construction.
