Heparan-alpha-glucosaminide N-acetyltransferase

Heparan-alpha-glucosaminide N-acetyltransferase

In enzymology, a heparan-alpha-glucosaminide N-acetyltransferase (EC number|2.3.1.78) is an enzyme that catalyzes the chemical reaction

:acetyl-CoA + heparan sulfate alpha-D-glucosaminide ightleftharpoons CoA + heparan sulfate N-acetyl-alpha-D-glucosaminide

Thus, the two substrates of this enzyme are acetyl-CoA and heparan sulfate alpha-D-glucosaminide, whereas its two products are CoA and heparan sulfate N-acetyl-alpha-D-glucosaminide.

This enzyme belongs to the family of transferases, specifically those acyltransferases transferring groups other than aminoacyl groups. The systematic name of this enzyme class is acetyl-CoA:heparan-alpha-D-glucosaminide N-acetyltransferase. This enzyme is also called acetyl-CoA:alpha-glucosaminide N-acetyltransferase. This enzyme participates in glycosaminoglycan degradation and glycan structures - degradation.
