"The Journals of Gerontology" were the first scientific journals on aging published in the United States. "Journal of Gerontology: Psychological Sciences" and the "Journal of Gerontology: Social Sciences" are separate peer-reviewed scientific journals, each with its own editor, published now under the name "The Journals of Gerontology Series B".

"Journal of Gerontology: Psychological Sciences" publishes articles relating to the psychology of aging. Numerous topics include, but are not limited to: attitudes, cognition, perception, sensation, emotion, personality, health psychology, neuropsychology, and physiological psychology.

The journal publishes four types of articles: reports on original research; brief reports; solicited reviews and position papers; theoretical or methodological contributions.

Publishes material relating to aging from the field of social sciences. This includes, but is not limited to, the following topics: public health, epidemiology, social work, demography, anthropology, social history, political science, and economics.

The journal publishes five types of materials: reports on original research; brief reports; reviews; letters to the editor; and theoretical and methodological articles.
