Adam Harben

Adam Benjamin Harben (born August 19, 1983 in city-state|Little Rock|Arkansas) is a Major League Baseball pitcher in the Chicago Cubs organization.

Harben was originally drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 38th round (1137th overall) in the 2001 Major League Baseball Draft. He did not sign with them and was then taken by the Minnesota Twins in the 15th round (452nd overall) in 2002 Major League Baseball Draft.

Harben began his professional career for the Rookie League Gulf Coast Twins in by|2002. In 12 games with them, he had a 3.20 ERA to go with a 4-1 record. For the next two season, he played for the Single-A Quad City River Bandits. In by|2005, he was promoted to the Advanced Single-A Fort Myers Miracle. Playing in 25 games, all starts, he had a 10-5 record with a 2.66 ERA.

On November 18, 2005, the Twins purchased his contract, protecting him from the Rule 5 Draft. Harben was promoted to the Double-A New Britain Rock Cats in by|2006. He played in 29 games for them, 22 of them were starts, and had a 4-9 record despite a 3.96 ERA. On September 5, 2006, Harben was traded to the Chicago Cubs to complete an August 31, 2006, trade in which the Cubs had sent Phil Nevin to the Twins.

In November 2006, Harben underwent Tommy John surgery. On December 12, 2006, the Cubs declined to tender him a contract, making him a free agent. He was signed to a minor league contract by the Cubs the next day.

Harben missed the majority of the by|2007 season save for 3 rookie league starts. On November 3, mlby|2007, the Cubs purchased his contract, protecting him from the Rule 5 Draft. He was designated for assignment by the Cubs on September 22, mlby|2008.
