Marc Antonio Carter is a basketball player for the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. He is currently UNCW's leading scorer.

High school

Carter attended Chopticon High School in Mechanicsville, Maryland. In his high school career, he led the Braves to a 63-11 record (44-4 in his junior and senior years) and was named the Southern Maryland Athletic Conference MVP in his senior year. He was named All-Washington Post and All-Metro Area, as he shattered the Chopticon scoring record with 1,275 career points. In his senior campaign, he averaged 23.2 points per game, 9.0 rebounds per game, 5.3 assists per game, and 3.0 steals per game.

Freshman and sophomore (UNCW)

Carter saw limited playing time as a freshman at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. He made his collegiate debut against Campbell College but did not score. He did, however, drop 17 points against James Madison University, his freshman year high. As a sophomore, Carter missed the season opener against Marshall University due to hernia surgery, but had mild success in regular season games against Hofstra University and College of Charleston, scoring 16 points in each.

Junior and senior (UNCW)

Carter was pivotal as a starter in leading UNCW to the 2006 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. Carter scored a career high 31 points in 49 minutes against Hofstra. He was named Third Team All-Colonial Athletic Association in 2006 by leading UNCW to the 2006 CAA Championship, in which he was named Most Valuable Player. Carter led the Seahawks to the 2006 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, losing to George Washington University in the first round. The Seahawks fell to the Colonials 88-85 in overtime, but Carter led all scorers with 25 points, including a clutch three-pointer with approximately 20 seconds remaining in regulation to give the Seahawks a 2 point lead.

Carter was unable to follow up on his junior year success, as he succumbed to another sports hernia requiring surgery on the opening night of the 2006 season. Carter decided to red shirt for his senior year, sitting out the entire season but enabling him to return to UNCW in 2007.

Redshirt senior season (UNCW)

Due to the surgery, Carter was able to return for the UNCW 2007-2008 season. Carter led the Seahawks in numerous statistical categories during the 2007-2008 season including points per game and assists per game. On Saturday, December 22, 2007, Carter surpassed the 1,000 point mark for his career with a 3-pointer against East Carolina University and finished the game with 11 points, leaving him with 1,001 career points.
