Puppis A is a supernova remnant about 10 light-years in diameter, and one of the brightest sources in the X-ray sky. The supernova occurred approximately 3700 years ago. Its X-ray designation is 2U 0821-42.

A hypervelocity neutron star known as the Cosmic Cannonball‎ has been found in this SNR traveling ~3 million miles per hour.
