railway line which connects the cities of Saitama, Kawagoe, and Hidaka inSaitama Prefecture inJapan . The main transfer stations on the line are Ōmiya, Kawagoe and Komagawa. It was opened in 1940, and electrified (1,500 V DC) in 1985. The 3.7 km section between Ōmiya and Nisshin Stations is double-tracked and the rest of the line is single-tracked. It is currently owned and operated byEast Japan Railway Company (JR East). The section between Kawagoe and Ōmiya operates as an extension of the
Saikyō Line from centralTokyo , with most trains running to Ōsaki and on to Shin-Kiba via theRinkai Line .On the section between Kawagoe and Komagawa, about a half of the trains continue to and from Hachiōji via the
Hachikō Line .Except for a few rush-hour trains that start and terminate at Minami-Furuya, there are no through trains operating between the west and east sections, and so passengers wishing to travel beyond Kawagoe from either side must change trains there.
