Allen Denton

Allen Denton is an American Television Journalist. He was a news co-anchor of San Jose, CA-based NBC11's flagship news program, "The Bay Area at 11".

Career

Denton started his career as a Radio DJ in High School. He then spent the next ten years exploring various aspects of the broadcasting business.

Denton's most recent broadcasting contribution was at NBC11 where he spent seven years co-anchoring the 5 O'Clock & 11 O'Clock news broadcasts. During his final broadcast, Denton mentioned moving back to Tennessee where he will be closer to and more involved with his family. Prior to NBC11, Denton was at WSPA-TV, in Spartanburg, S.C. through 1994 and anchored at WCNC-TV, Charlotte, N.C. through October 2000.

Awards

Denton has won Emmy awards four times. First, in 1995 for co-anchoring a live broadcast of the Breeder’s Cup Race from Churchill Downs. Again, in 1997, for his solo field anchoring in the aftermath of a devastating tornado. He also won an Emmy for his coverage of the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. His most recent Emmy Award was for a documentary about the year that followed 9/11. Denton has also been awarded two Associated Press awards, one for Best Anchor in the San Francisco market, and another for Best Live Coverage of a News Event.
