The Art Institute of Vancouver – is one of The Art Institutes, a system of over 35 education institutions located throughout North America, providing education in design, media arts, fashion and culinary arts. The Art Institutes system is a subsidiary of Education Management Corporation, which is headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The Art Institute of Vancouver has four facilities: two downtown Vancouver locations, a Burnaby, British Columbia location, and The International Culinary School at The Art Institute of Vancouver.

The main location of The Art Institute of Vancouver is the Burnaby school, which was founded in 1979 and originally called the Center for Digital Imaging and Sound. The Art Institute offers courses in Baking & Pastry Arts, Culinary Arts, Electronic Music, Event Planning, Digital Film & Video, Restaurant Owenership, Graphic Design, Animation, Fashion Design, Game Art & Design and other art diciplines.

Game Art & Design Program

The Calgary Sun reported that in 2005 over 200 students were enrolled in The Art Institute of Vancouver's 18-month game art & design diploma program. On March 1, 2008 The Art Institute of Vancouver hosts the ARTimation Media Arts Festival. ARTimation will feature the areas of gaming, animation, visual effects, film, and recording arts – all of which are creative programs offered at The Art Institute’s Burnaby campus. The event features an innovative and interactive area where attendees can spend the day learning about media arts industries through game play, film screenings, production workshops, hands-on drawing tutorials, industry-insider information sessions, and high-profile keynote speakers.
