Henry Jacques Garrigues

Henry Jacques Garrigues (1831-1912) was an American doctor who is considered to have introduced antiseptic obstetrics to America. Born in Copenhagen, Denmark, he was graduated from medical school there in 1869. After moving to the United States, he was named obstetric surgeon at the New York Maternity Hospital and physician in the gynecologic department of the German Dispensary (now Lenox Hill Hospital in New York. He became a fellow of the American Gynecological Society in 1877 and was vice-president in 1897.
