Vladimir Andreyevich Kostrov ( _ru. "Владимир Андреевич Костров") (born September 21, 1935) is a Russian poet. He also professor of Gorky Institute of Literature in Moscow. Awarded by State Award of Russia (1985) and Government Cultural Award (2006)

Biography

Early life

Born Vladimir Kostrov in the Kostroma region of Central Russia, 400 km near Moscow in a small village called Vlasikha. His father Andrey Kostrov had been a Red Army officer during the Second World War.After the Secondary School Kostrov moved to Moscow. From 1953-1957 he studied at the Moscow State University. He published his first poem in 1957 in Youth Magazine (Юность) and his first book four years later. In 1961 he joined the Union of Soviet Writers.

Poet of Russian country and nature

Vladimir Kostrov became one of the best known poets of the 1960s in the Soviet Union such writers as Andrei Voznesensky, Robert Rozhdestvensky, Yevgeny Yevtushenko, but his poems has not political senses. He wrote about Russia country, nature, simple people. His very clear works in those times, were very popular among the Russian lovers of poetry. How colleagues had prefer visits West countries, Vladimir Kostrov liked the rural Russian village and towns. After 1960 he was worked as journalists in youth magazines- "Tekhnika Molodezhi" (Techniks for Youth), Smena (New Generation). From 1986 he was deputy editor very popular soviet magazine – "Novy Mir" (New World). He was an author of text of musical ‘Giordano’ about Giordano Bruno with very popular Russian singers Valeriy Leontiev and Larisa Dolina.

Post-Soviet period

In the post-Soviet era Kostrov discussed environmental issues, confronted Russian Democrats Writers from the alternative Union of the Writers of Russia. He published his anthology of Russian poetry of 20th Century entitled Russkaia Poeziia: XX Vek Antologiia (Russian) by Vladimir Kostrov, Gennadii Krasnikov Book, OLMA-Press (January 1999). ["20 век антология русской поэзии" (1999) Edited by Vladimir Kostrov and Gennadiy Krasnikov] During 90’ and XXI Century he was took an active part as an organizer of All-Russian Pushkin Memory Days (the 6th of June – the day when was born Alexandre Pushkin. 16 years Vladimir Kostrov was the chief of Pushkin Memory Days in Pskov Region (near the tomb of great Russian poet). Now Kostrov is the President of International Pushkin Committee and Vice-President of International Pushkin Foundation ‘Classic’ and professor of Russian Poetry Cathedrae Gorky Institute of Literature in Moscow.
