- Pancrates of Athens
Pancrates ( _el. Παγκρατης) of
Athens , was aCynic philosopher who lived c.140 AD .Philostratus relates, that when the celebratedsophist Lollianus was in danger of being stoned by the Athenians in a tumult aboutbread , Pancrates quieted the mob by exclaiming that Lollianus was not a "bread-dealer" ( _el. ἀρτοπώλης) but a "word-dealer" ( _el. λογοπώλης).
