railway line that ran fromLavriou Square inAthens up to old mines of the Englishmarble company inDionyssos known asStrofyli .About the railway line
The line was first opened on
February 4 ,1885 It continued up to Strofyli Street and sits by the side of the Charilaou Trikoupi Street, nest to the presend day Kamares trade station inNea Erythraia and Eleftheriou Venizelou slightly north of the modern day town hall and theBank of Cyprus branch. Between eou (Nea Erythraia) and Rodon Streets (Ekali junctions theDionyssos Avenue and lead to the old mines.The function of the old line was mainly for commerce, the trains which passed from the same platforms for marble transportation. Those went as far as Kifissia which the
steam engine s in which placed headlines in theAttica Railways which reached toAttikis Square which placed them on trucks. The passenger use was also used and took several routes of Athens - Kifissia to Strofyli and several trails through Dionysso.The operation of the rail ended in
1938 together with Thirio, the steam engines from Athens to Kifissia, though the line abandoned much later. In1960 , the Hellenic Electric Railroads/Railways, the presentISAP ran on the entire portion of the railway with the exception of the line north of the Kifissia station to Strofyli which disappeared, te remains of rubber which was by the factory of Dionyssos.
