Eugenia Apostol

Eugenia Duran Apostol (born 1925 in Sorsogon) is a journalist from the Philippines. She was awarded the 2006 Ramon Magsaysay Award for Journalism, Literature & Creative Communication Arts. Life and career

After the assassination of Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr. in 1983 her magazine "Mr. & Ms." started to report weekly on abuses from president Ferdinand Marcos' regime. In 1985 she founded the "Philippine Daily Inquirer", which later became the Philippines' largest newspaper.

In 1996 Apostol founded the "Foundation for Worldwide People Power", with the aim to improve facilities and teaching in Pilippine public schools.
