In enzymology, a polyneuridine-aldehyde esterase (EC number|3.1.1.78) is an enzyme that catalyzes the chemical reaction
:polyneuridine aldehyde + H2O 16-epivellosimine + CO2 + methanol
Thus, the two substrates of this enzyme are polyneuridine aldehyde and H2O, whereas its 3 products are 16-epivellosimine, CO2, and methanol.
This enzyme belongs to the family of hydrolases, specifically those acting on carboxylic ester bonds. The systematic name of this enzyme class is polyneuridine aldehyde hydrolase (decarboxylating). Other names in common use include polyneuridine aldehyde esterase, and PNAE. This enzyme participates in indole and ipecac alkaloid biosynthesis.
