L-arabinonolactonase

In enzymology, a L-arabinonolactonase (EC number|3.1.1.15) is an enzyme that catalyzes the chemical reaction

:L-arabinono-1,4-lactone + H₂O $ightleftharpoons$ L-arabinonate

Thus, the two substrates of this enzyme are L-arabinono-1,4-lactone and H₂O, whereas its product is L-arabinonate.

This enzyme belongs to the family of hydrolases, specifically those acting on carboxylic ester bonds. The systematic name of this enzyme class is L-arabinono-1,4-lactone lactonohydrolase. This enzyme participates in ascorbate and aldarate metabolism.
