Juvenile-hormone esterase
- Juvenile-hormone esterase
In enzymology, a juvenile-hormone esterase (EC number|3.1.1.59) is an enzyme that catalyzes the chemical reaction
:methyl (2E,6E)-(10R,11S)-10,11-epoxy-3,7,11-trimethyltrideca-2,6-dienoate + H2O (2E,6E)-(10R,11S)-10,11-epoxy-3,7,11-trimethyltrideca-2,6-dienoate + methanol
The 3 substrates of this enzyme are methyl, (2E,6E)-(10R,11S)-10,11-epoxy-3,7,11-trimethyltrideca-2,6-dienoate, and H2O, whereas its two products are (2E,6E)-(10R,11S)-10,11-epoxy-3,7,11-trimethyltrideca-2,6-dienoate and methanol.
This enzyme belongs to the family of hydrolases, specifically those acting on carboxylic ester bonds. The systematic name of this enzyme class is methyl-(2E,6E)-(10R,11S)-10,11-epoxy-3,7,11-trimethyltrideca-2,6-die noate acylhydrolase. Other names in common use include JH-esterase, juvenile hormone analog esterase, and juvenile hormone carboxyesterase.
