HMS "Firedrake" was an F class destroyer of the
Royal Navy built in 1934. She took part in theBattle of the Atlantic and was torpedoed in 1942.Construction
She was built by
Parsons Marine Steam Turbine Company ,Wallsend , although her hull was sub-contracted toVickers Armstrongs , Walker. She was launched on28 June 1934 .World War Two
On
14 September 1939 "Firedrake", in company with "Faulknor" and "Foxhound" sank "U-39". north-west ofIreland . On18 October 1940 she sank theItalian submarine Durbo east ofGibraltar in company with HMS "Wrestler" and 2 London flying boats of 202 Sqn RAF."Firedrake" served as leader of
Mid-Ocean Escort Force Group B-7 from early 1942. Escort Group B-7 escorted convoys HX-186, ON-94, HX-192, ON-106, SC-91, ON-117, SC-103, ON-142, and HX-216 [cite book| title=North Atlantic Run |author=Milner, Marc |publisher=Naval Institute Press|isbn=0-87021-450-0 |year=1985|pages=p.286] before "Firedrake" was torpedoed by "U-211" on17 December 1942 while escorting convoy ON-153.
