Igor is the hunchback assistant of Dr. Frankenstein in the 1974 film, "Young Frankenstein," and was the most famous movie role played by comic actor Marty Feldman.

Origin

The Character originated as "Ygor" (played by Bela Lugosi in the 1939 film Son of Frankenstein), a former blacksmith tried and executed for body-snatching but who had survived his own hanging, and has been in Dracula movies and most recently Van Helsing.

A New Twist

In Young Frankenstein, which is a parody of the Frankenstein/Horror genre, the character is simply pronounced "eye-gor" and is the lab assistant Herr Falkstein assigned to Dr. Frankenstein (apparently both of their grandfathers knew each other).

Musical

In the musical Herr Falkstein is not present. Other than that most of the character remains the same.
