- Lev Rebet
Lev Rebet (born 1912 in
Striy ,Ukraine , died in 1957 inMunich ,Germany ).Born in Galicia Rebet studied law at theLviv University . From 1927 he was a member of theUkrainian Military Organization UVO and laterOUN . From 1930 he headed the Striy regional OUN. From 1934-38 he headed the Regional Executive of the OUN in Western Ukraine. He was arrested a number of times by the Polish police and spent 3 years incarcerated inBereza Kartuska Detention Camp . From February 1940 he was a member of the OUN(b) Bandera faction. In June 1941 he was one of the initiators of the proclamation of theAct of Independence of Ukraine in Lviv, and was the vice-president of the Stetsko government. In August 1941 he was arrested again by theGestapo and was interned inAuschwitz till 1944. In 1945 he was transferred to Munich. After being released from the camp he lived in Germany. After the war he held a number of commanding posts in the OUN(b). After the division in the OUN he headed the OUN (diaspora) and united withMykola Lebed and others. He worked as the editor in a number of periodicals. In 1949 he completed his doctoral dissertation and in the 50's took up research and scholarship in the fields of law, politics and sociology. His major works included "The formation of the Ukrainian nation" (1951) and "The theory of Nations" (1956). In 1957 he was assassinated by aKGB agentBohdan Stashynsky . After Rebet was executed, his widow Daria continued his work.ources
