Sara J. King (born 1982) is an Alaskan science fiction writer residing in the Alaska Bush."[1] She is currently working on her 11th novel, part of the "After Earth" series represented by the Donald Maass Literary Agency of New York.

History
Sara King was born in Fairbanks, Alaska, in 1982, when it was 40 degrees below zero.[2] She has remained an Alaskan ever since, graduating from Chugiak High School in 2001 and beginning her full-time writing career shortly thereafter. She is an outdoors enthusiast, known for including vivid imagery of her experiences in the Greatland in her poetry and novels. Her works have appeared in numerous short-story magazines, including Apex Science Fiction and Horror, BBT Magazine, and Aberrant Dreams.
Sara began writing at age 4, and wrote her first full-length novel eight years later. In 2001, she wrote her first "After Earth" novel, which later became Book 3 of her newest sci-fi series. Between 2002 and 2005, she filled in the gaps, writing, in succession, Book 1, Book 4, and Book 2. Beginning in 2002 and again in 2003, she attended two Breakout Novel Intensive Workshops with Donald Maass, whom later signed her on as a client with the Donald Maass Literary Agency of New York.[3]
In Winter of 2001, while a Senior at Chugiak High School, Sara King received an Honorable Mention from the University of Alaska 21st Annual Creative Writing Contest for her poetry piece, "Untitled."[4][5]
In March 2007, Sara King was chosen from a pool of 50 candidates to edit Aberrant Dreams,[6] where she works as a contributing editor.[7]
In August 2007, 7500-word short piece "The Moldy Dead," a short story spinoff of the After Earth series, became Sara's first published short work in Apex Science Fiction and Horror Digest,[8] where it received positive reviews from the sci-fi community.[9]
In February 2008, Sara King was selected and interviewed as the Featured Writer for online pro magazine Apex Online.[10] Her work entitled "Twelve-A" was published alongside the interview [11] and was subsequently requested to be reprinted in the Israeli fiction magazine Mercury in April 2008.[12]
In March 2008, Sara King joined the Codex Writers Group, an online gathering of professional speculative fiction writers, editors, and agents. Here, she workshopped both of her most recent short fantasy works "The Sheet-Charmer of Broketoe" and "The Auldhund," which won semi-finalist in the First Quarter 2008Writers of the Future Contest,.[13]
In July 2008, Sara King graduated from the 6-week Odyssey Writing Workshop in New Hampshire[14] after earning a coveted early admission to the workshop with her short work "The Golden Directive."[15] Approximately one month later, Sara's Odyssey entrance story was chosen as the top work for all the incoming students[16] by a panel of independent judges and subsequently won the Gandalf Award, a $1250 writing grant for students attending the workshop.[17]

Awards & recognitions
In 2001, Sara King received an Honorable Mention from the University of Alaska's 21st Annual Creative Writing Contest for her poetry piece, "Untitled." [4][5]
Sara King has twice received Honorable Mentions from the Writers of the Future Contest; her first from the First Quarter 2007 contest for her 8,000-word short work "Parasite" and her second in the Fourth Quarter 2007 for the 7,900-word short piece "Fury of the Sphinx". She became a semi-finalist in the contest in the First Quarter 2008 with the 10,000-word novelette "The Auldhund." [13]
