French battleship Formidable (1885)

The "Formidable" was an early battleship of the French Navy.

In 1890, "Formidable" was used to experiment captive balloons usage in the Navy [ [http://cnum.cnam.fr/CGI/fpage.cgi?4KY28.35/317/100/536/0/0 La Nature. Revue des sciences et de leurs applications aux arts et à l'industrie] , pp. 312-314. From [http://cnum.cnam.fr/SYN/4KY28.35.html Le Conservatoire numérique des Arts & Métiers] ] From May 1891, she was the flagship of the Mediterranean squadron. In 1898, she was transferred to the Atlantic squadron, based in Brest.
