Philip of Hesse-Philippsthal (
14 December 1655 ,Kassel -18 June 1721 ,Aachen ) was the son ofWilliam VI, Landgrave of Hesse-Kassel (or Hesse-Cassel) and Hedwig Sophie von Brandenburg. He was the firstlandgrave ofHesse-Philippsthal from 1663 to 1721 and the founder of the fifth branch of thehouse of Hesse .Marriage and issue
In 1680, Philip of Hesse-Philipsthal married Catherine von Salms-Laumbach (1654-1736) (daughter of Othon von Salms-Laumbach). They had 8 children:
