Aguilera is a surname which derives from Castile, predominant among Christian kingdoms of medieval Spain. Some of the first settlers of this name or some of its variants were: Among the early explorers of the New World was Jerónimo de Aguilar, who reached the coast of Mexico in 1511 and lived for eight years among the Mayas, before joining Cortés in 1519 in the conquest of Mexico. Other early settlers of the new World include Catalina de Aguiar, who emigrated to America 1512.
