Martin Brewer Anderson Nationality American Religion Christian (Baptist) Martin Brewer Anderson (1815 - 1890) was the first president of the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York.

Biography
Anderson was born February 12, 1815 in Brunswick, Maine. He graduated from Waterville College in 1840 and then attended Newton Theological Institution seminary in Newton, Massachusetts. He taught at Waterville College and edited the Baptist weekly New York Recorder.[1] He died February 26, 1890 in Lake Helen, Florida and is buried in the University of Rochester plot at Mount Hope Cemetery in Rochester.[2]

He served in the position from 1853 to 1888. His initial salary was $1,800 per year.[3]
