Arms industry in Romania

Arms industry in Romania

Romania is the 11th-largest arms supplier in the world. The Romanian arms industry's main customer, for whom they mainly build warships, guns, weapons, and equipment, is the Romanian government.

Furthermore, record high defense expenditure (currently at 5 billion Euro), which was considerably increased under the government of Prime Minister Călin Popescu-Tăriceanu, have contributed to the success of the Romanian arms industries. In addition, external demand plays a big part in the growth of this sector: for example, Romanian exports great quantities of weaponry to the Middle East.

In recent years, the Romanian government has called, unsuccessfully, for the lifting of the European Union arms embargo on the People's Republic of China.
