The following are major roads in Towson, Maryland.

York Road

Maryland Route 45, better known as York Road, is the main corridor that runs through central Towson, containing most of the area's commercial development. While York Road approaches Towson in a mostly northbound direction from Baltimore city, the road curves to the northwest as it branches off from the Towson Circle. At this point, Maryland Route 146 "(Dulaney Valley Road)" continues in the same direction as York Road.

Located on York Road are the front end of the Towson University campus, the Towson Library, and Towson Commons.

Towson Bypass

The Towson-Bypass is a semicircular, 6+ lane, divided road that begins at Fairmount Avenue, and runs alongside the western side of Towson's central business district, with the purpose of being an alternate route to the congested York Road through the area. Most of the road is known as Bosley Avenue.

Located on the Towson Bypass are the [http://www.baltimorecountymd.gov/Agencies/circuit/index.html Baltimore County Courts Building] and the northeast side of the Towson University campus. At this point, as the Towson Bypass passes York Road, its name changes to Burke Avenue, a two-lane residential street that continues to the area of the Towson Marketplace and becomes Hillen Road and then Putty Hill Avenue.

Dulaney Valley Road

Maryland Route 146, better known as Dulaney Valley Road in this area, begins at the Towson Circle, the location of the Towson Town Center. It then passes the Towson Sheraton and Goucher College before continuing outside the Beltway.

Joppa Road

Joppa Road is one of Baltimore County's main cross-county roads on the north side of the county, and the central Towson area divides this road into "West" and "East" Joppa Road. To the west of central Towson, Joppa Road is primarily a two-lane residential road. To the east of the Towson Circle, it is a four+ lane commercial corridor.

Fairmount Avenue/Goucher Boulevard

Fairmount Avenue is a short, divided multi-lane road that runs along the north and east sides of central Towson. Splitting off from Fairmount Avenue is Goucher Boulevard, a major, multi-lane, divided road that continues southeast to near the major intersection of Loch Raven Boulevard and Taylor Avenue. Goucher Boulevard, which draws its name from the nearby college, is mostly used by thru traffic between its points.

Towsontown Boulevard

Towsontown Boulevard is a four-lane road that runs from Charles Street to Fairmount Avenuem, mostly used for thru traffic in this area, and also the northern boundary to the Towson University campus.

Kenilworth Drive

Kenilworth Drive is the physical continuation of Bellona Avenue when it reaches Charles Street near the Beltway. Charles Street

In the Towson area, Charles Street is mostly a multi-lane, divided thru road with some notable landmarks. Charles Street is also Baltimore Beltway exit 25.

Osler Drive

Osler Drive is a short but well-known five-lane road in the Towson area that runs from Towsontown Boulevard to Stevenson Lane. It runs through the western side of the Towson University campus, and also provides access to the entrances to Sheppard Pratt and St. Joseph Hospitals.

Stevenson Lane is a mostly residential road that runs from Charles Street to Hillen Road, and is mostly used for thru traffic.

Putty Hill Avenue

Loch Raven Boulevard

Maryland Route 542, better known as "Loch Raven Boulevard", is a major road that begins at Beltway exit 29, and continues into the Waverly area of Baltimore city. The road, which is multi-lane and divided throughout its duration, is lined with a mixture of residential and commercial development. Many view Loch Raven Boulevard as the eastern boundary of the Towson area.

Cromwell Bridge Road

"Cromwell Bridge Road" is a road that runs from Providence Road to Glen Arm Road/Cub Hill Road. It is best known as exit 29 off I-695, an exit shared with Loch Raven Boulevard. The section west of this exit and inside the Beltway is lined with office space and homes while the section east of this exit and outside the Beltway is primarily rural and undeveloped. Loch Raven High School is a landmark along this road just outside the Beltway.

Providence Road

Providence Road is exit 28 off I-695 and is primarily a residential street. Up until 1996, when buses were discontinued, the Maryland Transit Administration operated a park-and-ride near the exit. The south end of the road terminates at Joppa Road East, next to the Public Safety Building and the main offices of Black & Decker.
