Softshare is a privately owned company that develops, distributes, and supports business-to-business e-commerce software and Web applications and provides related services, including value-added network services. In addition, Softshare develops and distributes client-tracking and reporting applications used by business development centers such as the Small Business Development Centers (SBDCs) funded by the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Softshare was founded in 1982 as a division of MCR Technology Incorporated, cite web | url = http://www.catseasily.com/company/| title = "About Softshare"| work = catseasily.com| publisher = Softshare| accessdate = 2007-11-20] offering high-speed computer time-sharing services to a mostly government-connected client base.cite web | url = http://www.softshare.com/company/history/| title = "Softshare History"| work = softshare.com| publisher = Softshare| accessdate = 2007-11-20] Over time, Softshare changed its focus to include Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), a standardized format used by government and commercial entities to exchange business data electronically. Currently, most of Softshare's product offerings deal with the EDI standard in addition to other business-interchange formats such as XML.

Softshare is headquartered in Santa Barbara, California and, in 2005, opened European headquarters, Softshare B.V., in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.cite press release | title= California-Based E-Commerce Provider Opens European Headquarters in Amsterdam | publisher= Softshare | url=http://www.nfia.com/item.php?newsid=117 | date = 2005-01-05|accessdate=2007-11-20]
