The Sandler Family Supporting Foundation was created by Herb Sandler and Marion Sandler.

In 2006, the Sandlers gave 17,422,751 shares of Golden West Financial stock worth $1.3 billion to the foundation. In the fiscal year ending June 30, 2004, the SFSF gave away $50 million, including a grant to help John Podesta start the Center for American Progress.
