Death of Pearl Gupta

Death of Pearl Gupta

Pearl Gupta (born 1989) was crushed under the wheels of a Blueline public transport bus, in front of her college Aditi Mahavidyalaya on November 19, 2007 at 11:50 AM. Aditi Mahavidyalaya is a constituent college of Delhi University. Delhi is plagued by unruly Blueline buses, everyday killing a few pedestrians due to unprofessional drivers behind their wheels. The Delhi government is planning to take the buses off. However, Delhi has no proper solution to its public transport as yet, in spite of Delhi Metro. Pearl's death has sparked off a big debate about the safety of girl students in Delhi. As a sociological and gender issue it always has been discussed. But the grisly manner of her death has unified many womens' college students in Delhi to seriously figure out their survival in the city.
