Autoignition =Beryllium carbonate is a
chemical compound with thechemical formula BeCO3. ["Public Health Goal for Beryllium and Beryllium Compounds in Drinking Water" Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment California Environmental Protection Agency September 2003 http://www.oehha.ca.gov/water/phg/pdf/BePHG92303.pdf] The related basic beryllium carbonate has the formula BeCO3.Be(OH)2 (CAS 1319-43-3) and is a mixed salt containing both carbonate and hydroxide ions. In the older literature this is probably what was referred to as beryllium carbonate [ J.E. Macintyre "Dictionary of Inorganic Compounds" 1992 CRC Press ISBN 0412301202] Both compounds are insoluble in hot (decompose) or cold water but soluble inacid s oralkali . Beryllium carbonate is produced by adding a beryllium salt to a solution ofammonium carbonate . The compound is toxic, rats fed on it develop symptoms comparable toosteoporosis .ee also
