Lieutenant Jack Maynard Cholmondeley Easton of the
Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve was awarded theGeorge Cross for his gallantry in defusing a bomb which had fallen onHoxton , in theEast End ofLondon , during theBlitz on the 17th of October 1940. Notice of his award appeared in theLondon Gazette on the 23rd of January, 1941 [http://www.ww2awards.com/person/308] . Later in the war he skippered armed trawlers and minesweepers. Born on the 28th of May in 1906 he was educated atPangbourne College and was a solicitor by profession. He died on the 29th of November, 1994 inChichester inSussex .
