Peter Victor Danckwerts

Peter Victor Danckwerts GC, MBE, FRS (1916–1984) was Shell Professor of Chemical Engineering at Cambridge University from 1959 to 1977 and a Fellow of Pembroke College, Cambridge.

Peter Danckwerts was educated at Winchester College, Balliol College, Oxford, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology [ [http://books.nap.edu/openbook.php?isbn=0309039398&page=112 Memorial Tributes: National Academy of Engineering, Volume 3 (1989)] ] .Serving as a sub-lieutenant in the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve, he was awarded the George Crosscite web |url=http://www.gc-database.co.uk/recipients/DanckwertsPV.htm|title=Peter Victor Danckwerts, GC |publisher=George Cross database |accessdate=2007-11-23] in 1940 for the "great gallantry and undaunted devotion to duty" he showed in defusing land mines dropped by the Luftwaffe on London. Notice of his award appeared in the "London Gazette" of 20 December 1940. He was wounded in action in the liberation of Sicily and appointed an M.B.E. in 1943.
