Ishenbai Kadyrbekov

Ishenbai Duyshonbiyevich Kadyrbekov (Ишенбай Дүйшөнбиевич Кадырбеков) (born 16 July 1949 in Naryn, Kyrgyz SSR) is the parliament speaker and the interim Minister for Transport and Communications of Kyrgyzstan. He was first considered for president after a revolution ousted former president Askar Akayev on March 24, 2005, but Kurmanbek Bakiyev took the power and gave the portfolio to Kadyrbekov.

Kadyrbekov had previously worked with Akayev's government, before being jailed in 2000. After his release, he became a prominent member of the opposition and was a member of Kyrgyzstan's parliament at the time of the Tulip Revolution.

Kadyrbekov was a candidate in the 2005 parliamentary election in District 33 in the city of Naryn. He finished in the second place in the first round of voting on February 27, 2005, qualifying for the runoff election held on March 13. Six days before the runoff election, Kadyrbekov was disqualified by Naryn regional court. This resulted in protests by his supporters in Naryn Oblast.

On March 24, 2005, after Askar Akayev resigned and left the country, the Kyrgyz Supreme Court annulled the recent parliamentary elections and declared the previous parliament to be the legitimate legislature of the country. The parliament then elected Kadyrbekov as its speaker.
