Fernand Holweck (1890,
Paris - 1941, Paris) was a Frenchphysicist .Holweck studied at the
École supérieure de physique et de chimie industrielles de la ville de Paris . He made important contributions in the fields ofvacuum technology,electromagnetic radiation andgravitation . In the 1920s, Holweck built the first prototype of a television set. He was the director of the Curie Laboratory of the Radium Institute in Paris. He was tortured and killed by theGestapo during the occupation of France 1940-44.An award, the Holweck Medal & Prize, was instituted in 1945 jointly by the French Physical Society and the
Institute of Physics as a memorial to Holweck.In 1924 he patented the
