John Byrne Cooke

John Byrne Cooke (born in New York City) is an American author [ [http://www.johnbyrnecooke.com/writing.html John Byrne Cooke's Writing Home Page ] ] , musician [ [http://www.cmt.com/artists/az/charles_river_valley_boys/bio.jhtml CMT.com : Charles River Valley Boys : Biography ] ] , and photographer. [ [http://www.cookephoto.com/ John Byrne Cooke Photography ] ] He is the son of British-American journalist and broadcaster Alistair Cooke. He is the great grandnephew of Ralph Waldo Emerson.

In the 1960s, he played rhythm guitar and sang lead for the Charles River Valley Boys, a Cambridge, Massachusetts-based bluegrass band.

He was Janis Joplin's road manager.

He has written several award winning historical novels, including "The Snowblind Moon" (1985), "South of the Border" (1989), and "The Committee of Vigilance" (1994). He has written book reviews for the New York Times, Washington Post Book World, and the Los Angeles Times.

Throughout his career in music, he has taken pictures of folk and rock icons, and has assembled a prodigious photo gallery.

John Byrne Cooke currently lives in Wyoming.
