Dafni, Vouprasia

Dafni (Greek: Δάφνη, meaning "laurel"), sometimes called Daphne, is a village lying in a hilly, forested region and is connected with a road to the Peneus Dam, Lechaina and Varda. It is part of the community of Aetorrachi municipality of Vouprasia. The prefecture of Achaia is located to the east over the hilltops including the present-day boundary aligning from northwest to southeast, before these areas north of Dafni became a part of Larissos, it used to bound to the north. It is located about 25 km E of Lechaina, about 15 to 20 km S of Varda, about 70 km WSW of Patras, about 7 km NE of the Peneus dam and about 60 km N of Pyrgos via roads.

The hills are surrounded to the north and are covered with grasses and bushes and has valleys to the north and to the east. More smaller hills are to the southwest and to the south and has forests and some bushes along the valleys. The low lying areas are mainly made up of mixed farming including groves, pastures and other crops. Mount Scollis or the Olenian Rock can be seen in the west along with the village of Portes. The panorama includes the hills of the western part of Ilia except for the Oleni ranges. The northwestern part of Ilia can be seen and most of the southern Ionian Islands can rarely be seen.

Historical population

Between 1981 and 1991, Dafni was one of the communities that lost a large number of inhabitants. Dafni was one of the fastest growing place in percentage between 1991 and 2001.

Dafni was one of the most declining villages in population in the prefecture of Ilia. The population revived its growth and were one of the fastest in the prefecture between 1991 and 2001.

Dafni has a small school, a church and a square ("plateia").

The entire population prior to the late-20th century were entirely rural and were also farmers. Today, it is still the majority of the population of the settlement.
