The Aowei Church of Holy Rosary

The Aowei Church of Holy Rosary (zh-cp|c=澳尾巷玫瑰圣母堂|p=ǎowěi xiàng méigūi shèngmǔ jiàotáng, literally "Aowei Church of Holy Rosary") is a catholic church in Fuzhou, China. It was founded in 1884 as a cathedral by the Dominican Order from Spain.

History

This catholic church lies on the middle of ChaTing avenue, and is the oldest church in Fuzhou (Foochow). It was built as a cathedral in 1848(the Qing Dynasty). The building has a Mediterranean Sea style and 360 sq. meters.

In 1923, the episcopal throne was moved to Huong_song_pu church which was the biggest church in Fujian (Fukien).

During institutional revolution(A greatest mass production movement which was launched by Mao Zedong the leader of CCP) from 1965 to 1975, the religious toleration was destroyed by the government, and the church was impropriated by factory of government. In 1983, the church was impropriated again by the children hospital of Fuzhou and the whole building was destroyed in charge of the government.

In 1987 and 1992, the local government announced that this building would be protected as a cultural relic.
