Ameripol

The American Police Community or Ameripol ("Comunidad de Policías de América" or "Ameripol") is a recently created continental police organization with the mission of fighting drugs.cite web |url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7094068.stm | title=Lat Am police start joint force | accessdate=2007-11-15]

Representatives of 18 countries formalized the creation of Ameripol on 14 November 2007 in Bogotá, Colombia. its presidency for the first two year term will be filled by the General Director of the Carabiniers of Chile, José Alejandro Bernales Ramírez.

The secretary-general will be the Commander of the Colombian National Police, general Óscar Adolfo Naranjo until 2010. After 2010, the secretary-general will be elected for a term of three years.

Its work focuses primarily on public safety, terrorism, organized crime, war crimes, illicit drug production, drug trafficking, weapons smuggling, human trafficking, money laundering, child pornography, white-collar crime, computer crime, intellectual property crime and corruption.
