Penny-ante

"Penny-Ante" is an independent Los Angeles based journal in book form published once a year, compiling a "wide range of written and visual works, personal photographs and other mixed means of documentation" [http://www.myspace.com/pennyante] from artists, writers, and musicians.

The first edition, "Book #1" was published in May 2006 and included over 75 contributions, some including Josephine Foster, Devendra Banhart, Jim James of My Morning Jacket, Xiu Xiu, Marissa Nadler, Hawnay Troof, artist Mel Kadel, Residual Echoes, Kentucky band Warmer Milks, Ariel Pink, Women & Children, Richard Swift, XBXRX, The American Analog Set, R.L. Crutchfield (Dark Day, DNA) and features cover art by underground Los Angeles artist Jason Yates of the "Fast Friends Inc." project.

The second edition, "Book #2" was published in June 2007 and included over 70 contributors, some including Silver Apples, Lavender Diamond, Bill Callahan of Smog, Camera Obscura, Alice Bag of The Bags, The Clientele, artist Winston Smith, Jennifer Herrema (of Royal Trux, RTX), Lene Lovich, The Moon Upstairs, Greg Ashley of Gris Gris, Jana Hunter, Slim Moon (Kill Rock Stars), Los Angeles band The Bubonic Plague, Farmer Dave Scher (All Night Radio, Beachwood Sparks, Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins), artist Peter Wu, The Tyde, Moris Tepper (Captain Beefheart, PJ Harvey, Tom Waits, Robyn Hitchcock), Nora Keyes (The Centimeters), and The Space Lady.
