WZTD-LP, is a low-power, Spanish-language, television station licensed to Richmond, Virginia. It is the market's Telemundo affiliate broadcasting on UHF channel 45.

History

The station signed on December 9, 1991 as W61BZ and were located on channel 61. It was an affiliate of the America's Store (a defunct shopping network owned by the Home Shopping Network). On February 22, 2000, W61BZ changed it call letters to WKYV-LP to reflect the original location of license. On July 21, 2000, Tiger Eye Broadcasting acquired the station and its license from TV Broadcasters of Central Virginia.

On August 15, 2006, the station officially signed off for technical reasons. Doing this time, ZGS Communications purchased WZTD-LP from Tiger Eye Broadcasting in October 2006 for an undisclosed amount. WZTD-LP Today

* WZTD-LP is the only Hispanic television station in Central Virginia.

* Unlike other Telemundo affiliates, WZTD-LP does not broadcast local newscasts.

* Currently, WZTD-LP is not available on cable systems in Central Virginia due to its low-power status.

* The station do not have a website. It is not yet listed on ZGS Communications corportation website.

* Outside of its Telemundo programming, the station does not produce or air local programming.

* The station does not broadcast in digital. FCC regulations currently exempt low-power television stations from the 2009 analog shutdown.

* Although the station does not have a logo of its own, it uses the station's ID every hour appearing from right to left on the top of the screen.

Analog-to-digital conversion

On August 27, 2008, Onda Capital, Inc. (ZGS Communications) filed a Digital Application for low-power digital broadcasting (LD). The FCC granted request for permission to digital flash-cut on September 22, 2008 and gave the station until September 22, 2011 to complete the transition on the same channel. WZTD is the third low-power TV station behind TBN affiliate, W39CO, and Daystar affiliate, WRID-LP, to follow this method.
