The Cavendish School, commonly known as Cavendish School or just Cavendish, is a coeducational comprehensive school, located in Eastbourne, East Sussex in England, and is an Arts College.

Overview

The Cavendish School was founded in 1843 by Sir Douglas Moleheimer, a local actor who enjoyed passing down his love of acting through teaching. The school has approximately 1006 pupils between the ages of 11 and 16 (roughly 200 in each year).

The school is headed by a Headteacher - Mr Kenny Fitzpatrick. It contains 4 houses - Chatsworth, Gilbert, Hurst, Melbourne - all of which are the names of roads in the local area surrounding the school, known as Old Town.

Almost all of the school's leavers go on to a local sixth form college - the most popular colleges being Park College, Eastbourne Vocational College and Lewes Sixth Form College, all of which are part of the same college organization known as Sussex Downs College.

chool uniform

The school uniform consists of black trousers, a white shirt and a navy blue sweatshirt bearing the school's emblem. For the first four years of their time at Cavendish school, all students wear a tie that is navy with a series of thin stripes in their year group's colour - either light blue, red, purple, green or yellow. This colour remains the same for their year group throughout their time at Cavendish. In Year 11, the final year, all pupils wear a royal blue sweatshirt with the school emblem and also their position of responsibility on it. Year 11 students also wear a different tie which is a block colour of either red (Hurst), green (Gilbert), blue (Melbourne) or yellow (Chatsworth) depending on their house.

In the summer months (from May to July),all pupils have the option of wearing a white polo shirt, in place of the shirt and tie combination, underneath their royal blue sweatshirt.

chool magazines

"Grapevine" is the official school magazine/newsletter. It contains information about school events, sports achievments, and after school clubs, as well as Peter Padget's Puzzle Page, a selection of maths quizzes, crosswords and su dukos.
