Rezerection

Rezerection

Rezerection is a dance music event promoter from Northumberland, England started by Paul Ludford in 1989. Originally held club events in the Newcastle at the Mayfair club, before hosting many large all-night raves in Scotland during 1991, mostly at the Royal Highland Centre, Edinburgh. Events would be a mixture of foreign, English and local Scottish talent. Events at Rez would have various attractions, from fairground rides, to fire-eaters and bungee jumping to jugglers in addition to the music and the “all nighter” party atmosphere. Normally kicking the night of with Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture classical music.

Rezerection won many awards, broke new ground in the promotion of safe events, tackling Health & Safety issues from both production and public stand points.

Rezerection had a double album 'The Awakening '95' released via Evolution Records before branching out into the record label market through their already established event branding and merchandising (even had British TV personality Donna Air model their clothing range) Eventually releasing 4 albums and 2 maxi singles including Scott Brown’s 'Do What Ya Like (The Rezerection Anthem). 15 Videos from various events were also released, featuring live footage mixed with music from the night and various video effects. The videos were recorded by a Scottish company called Double Vision and distributed through Rezerection mail order.

Many DJ’s and live acts played the Rezerection parties including DJ's Bass Generator Lenny Dee, Tom Wilson, Joey Beltram, Technotrance, DJ Ten, Marc Smith, Scott Brown and PA's Bass X, Q-Tex, QFX, GTO, Ultra-Sonic and Dye witness. Many of the DJ sets were recorded and were released singularly and in box sets from the various events. Some of these recordings are available from the official shop.

In 1996 Rezerection linked up with English Rave promoter Dreamscape to do 2 events, called The Bangin’ Bunny and The Arc. The Arc was supposed to have a live link up to ravers down south at the Dreamscape event.

In 1997 Dance music changed from the bouncy hardcore that the Scottish parties were known for to the more English happy hardcore and ticket sales suffered due to production budgets being slashed the musical style changing. The last official Rezerection at the Royal Highland Centre was the Event 97’ The Prologue in May of that year (with a capacity of 8000, 4 arena event.) The next event which was planned was cancelled when ticket agency TOCTA went under taking with it a large amount of pre-event ticket sales and the resulting money. Rezerection didn't manage to recover from this and the company folded soon afterward.

More recently Rezerection has been bought by a consortium headed by TTF's Jon Campbell and after a problematic start in 2005 at Glasgow's Barrowlands, the Rezerection name now lives on with their first event in over 10 years happening on the 22nd of December 2007 at Bathgate's Room At The Top Club (RATT). Live performances from many veteran Rezerection DJ's and PA's completed the come back event including headliners TTF, Capella, QFX and DJ Slipmatt. With the success of this event under the new managements belt further nights are planned.
