"The Art of Worldly Wisdom" is a book by Baltasar Gracián y Morales (a.k.a Baltasar Gracion). It is a collection of maxims. "Oráculo manual y arte de prudencia" was written in 1637, and became popular throughout Europe. The book is a collection of 300 paragraphs on various topics giving advice and guidance on how to live fully, advance socially, and be a better person.
It was translated by Joseph Jacobs (London and New York, Macmillan and co., 1892; Shambhala Publications unabridged edition, 1993, ISBN 0-87773-921-8; Shambhala Publications, 2004, ISBN 1-59030-141-2) and by Christopher Maurer (Doubleday 1992; Dover Publications, 2005, ISBN 0-486-44034-6)
It was also translated by Martin Fischer and published by Barnes and Nobles in 1993 and sold for $5.95 in paperback.
