Lieutenant-General Sir John Fullerton Evetts MC CB
CBE (1891-1988) was a career soldier of theBritish Army . He was educated atLancing College , Sussex, and theRoyal Military College ,Sandhurst before being commissioned intoThe Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) in 1911.He fought on the
Western Front duringWorld War I , and was awarded theMilitary Cross . He commanded British troops in Palestine from 1935-1939, during the Arab revolt. DuringWorld War II he commanded the Western (Independent) District,India , as well as being a divisional Commander. He was AssistantChief of the Imperial General Staff (1942-1944) and was awarded the USLegion of Merit in 1943. He retired in 1946 and was knighted in 1951.Command History
