similar = The first Triumph Daytona 600 was asport bike first manufactured in 1983 byTriumph Motorcycles out of their Meriden factory. Although a sleeved down, twin carb-ed version of the 650cc TR65 Thunderbird, it was exhibited as a new model for their 1984 range at the 1983 motorcycle show at the National Exhibition Centre. Unique for that years home market models, it featured rear set foot rests and a plastic 'ducktail' rear end over the conventional rear mudguard. The only one made before the Meriden factory closed in 1983 is at Triumph motorcycle spares dealer, TMS of Nottingham, England. The present Triumph factory at Hinckley has made a far better known 600cc Daytona. It is a powered by a liquid-cooled 599cc four-cylinder in-line engine and was superseded by the Daytona 650 from 2005. Triumph were fixated with beating the Japanese, which a small company in Hinckley, England simple couldn't do. It was in 2003 that the Japanese started throwing everything at the 600cc class. Slipper clutches, radial brakes, lap timers, titanium wotsits, you name it.
