Tennyson won re-election in 1999 defeating challenger Floyd McKissick, with almost two-thirds of the vote.[1] In 2001, Tennyson lost to Bill Bell by less than 500 votes.[2]
Tennyson is best known for hiring ill fated Marcia Conner as City Manager. Conner stepped down as Durham's city manager in January 2005 after pressure from the City Council and residents over her handling of city contracts.
Conner, Atlantic Beach, South Carolina Town Manager currently faces two charges of misconduct in office after investigators said she illegally transferred money between town accounts.
Conner also faces a charge of failing to meet the employer's obligation to the police retirement fund. [3]
